If you are like me, the typical San Diego girl, you are always wanting to look your best and take care of your skin. We have the best weather in the world so we spend a great deal of time outdoors which can wreak havoc on our skin. For the last few years I have been pretty busy with a hectic schedule, not making enough time to get regular facials. I had a gal that I went to for a few years but she had moved and so I was searching for a new place to go. I decided to embark on a journey to check out a few local spots and find out where to get an amazing facial.

I don’t know about you but I don’t trust just anyone with my face, especially when I am on camera most of the time. I don’t have much “down time” so I can’t mess around with too much trial and error. (One time I tried an IPL facial and was not told that I would look like a lizard for 2 weeks, and that not enough Mac make up in the world would cover the brown spots that came up like coffee grinds on my face.) True story, don’t want to relive that one.

I learned about Urban Skin Care from a friend of mine and started doing some research on them. I really liked what I read and the 2 owners had a great story! Larissa & Erin started the business 13 years ago, after they met in beauty school and became best friends. They had a very successful location in Little Italy for 12 years and just recently moved into a new space in Bankers Hill.

I loved that they believed in a holistic experience and were really all about offering a luxurious top quality facial in their spa with the main goal that you relax and get the pampering you deserve! No need to twist my arm. I was all for it!

After talking with their assistant, Anna, I came in to have Larissa customize a facial just for me! As soon as I walked in and met Larissa and the staff I was immediately at ease. (They are all so welcoming and down to earth.) I felt like I had 3 new BFF’s. Jessica brought me some water and Larissa gave me a tour of the new space. Larissa and I then talked about what products I was using and she made some immediate recommendations on how I should combine and use the products I already had at home which I loved. I talked to her about my skin issues and concerns the main ones being, congestion around my chin (hormonal breakout maybe??? sleep deprivation?) and that my skin looked dull to me and I needed to restore my glow. Larissa told me she had just the thing for me and it was now facial time.

The facial was an hour of awesomeness! Larissa decided to do a customized European facial for me using 2 signature lines she has in her spa, Epicurean & Priori. These 2 lines are anti-aging powerhouses by the way. (Epicurean has a Metabolic Enzyme in it that is an enzyme protein complex which in a nutshell encourages the skin to rejuvenate itself similar to how exercise supports your metabolism) It replenishes! Yes please:)

She started with some steam and the Epicurean Herbal Cleanser for dry, dehydrated, and sensitive skin. Then she did a gentle exfoliation with The Fine Herbal Facial Scrub which Larissa explained to me is made of apricot kernels and walnut shell granules, which are pharmaceutical grade and cut flat and round so it does not damage the skin. What is the difference you ask? Good question! If you buy Apricot Scrub at the store, it is made with shards and can damage the skin because it is too harsh!

One of my favorite parts of the facial was the massage she did with Grapeseed hydrophilic oil. It was like a workout for my face and was extremely relaxing. She also did an amazing Cinnamon Vanilla Brown Sugar body scrub on my dรฉcolletรฉ area and arms! It smelled amazing and you could feel the cinnamon helping to stimulate your circulation.

To really help my skin with the congestion Larissa tailored my mask to my skin’s condition and used a Bulgarian Probiotic mask which she mixed with 100% medical grade Aloe Vera to soothe and heal my problem areas. She also did a spot treatment on an inflamed area with Clarify Blemish eraser. You could actually feel it tingle! While my mask was on she did an arm and neck massage with Lavender After Bath Lotion which was voted the #1 Anti-aging cream in New Beauty Magazine!

Larissa ended the facial by applying The Acidophilus probiotic emulsion moisturizer and some protein mist which stimulates collagen and helps balance your PH levels of the skin. She added some Idebenone eye serum with AHA and vitamin A in it. She also did a lip treatment where she applied a lip balm that had tea tree oil in it and SPF of 15. On my face she applied a layer of Priori Natural protection Coffee Berry with an SPF 25 which is so organic and natural you can sleep in it! My skin was luminous!!

I really loved the facial! It was luxurious, pampering, and rejuvenating. I highly recommend Larissa and her amazing spa! It is a great place to bring your man too as they have quite a few male clients as well. This place is Pulse approved! They also offer a variety of services including waxing, massage, spray tans, and injection services with Dr. Vince P. Marin MD FACS. On a side note, the next day my skin felt tighter, my pores looked smaller, my breakouts had calmed down, and I had that glow back! Thank you Urban Skin Care!
