Celebrating Women Writers:

On September 21, 2017, Your Own Girl Friday was proud to partner with the Women’s Museum of California for an event to celebrating women writers. The Following writers were celebrated:

San Diego Author Sheila Fugard

Los Angeles Author Ally Loprete,

Los Angeles Author Dr. Carol Soloway,

Colorado Author Geri Westphal and

Philadelphia Author, Sue Williams for an evening of readings, questions and signings of their books. We are extremely blessed that author Sue Williams, gave us an extra reading of her sequel ‘Mackenzie’s Secret.’

These ladies reached into our minds, bodies, soul and hearts with stories ranging from surviving cancer, Hiroshima, Mystery, Motivation and Sex.

A Special Thank You to ABC Family Law for sponsoring this evening’s taping.

Sheila Fugard: “Sheila Fugard is a South African poet and novelist. She is the winner of literary awards for her novels. She has published four collections of poetry, as well as “Lady of Realization”, a spiritual memoir. Her poetry “Harp Song for Hiroshima” is important reading, a warning against the use of nuclear force in a troubled world.”

Ally Loprete: Self-made momprenuer and human potential advocate, Ally Loprete is nationally recognized as a vibrant and dynamic public speaker, radio personality and television host. She is the founder of, a nationwide online business directory of self-employed parents, the host of iHeart Radio’s THIS LITTLE PARENT STAYED HOME where 6 million listeners tune in for resources and support, and the cohost of WAKE UP TV, a nationally televised broadcast for the new mainstream. You can catch Ally on her new iHeart Radio and on-camera live streamed show DRAMATIC IMPACT WITH ALLY where she interviews successful actors, directors, writers and producers in Hollywood to lift up aspiring artists around the world. Ally is a member of the PFLAG Speaker’s Bureau, educating and advocating for LGBTQ and she is a public motivator dedicated to advancing women’s leadership worldwide. Ally lives with her husband and their two sons in the northern suburbs of Los Angeles, in a home filled with lots of laughter.

Geri Westphal was born and raised in Wisconsin and moved to Colorado in 1984 where she currently resides. She spent her career in a variety of executive business roles and has traveled extensively. In 2015 she heard the words every person dreads; “you have cancer”. With honesty and humor, she shares her story to inspire others who are also battling cancer’s grip. We are intensely aware of the things that cancer takes from us, but we do not often acknowledge the gifts it leaves behind; the rebirth and reawakening to what is most important in our lives.
Dr. Carol Soloway a chiropractor, Qualified Medical Evaluator, and author has changed careers each decade of her life, and writing is the synthesis of all of the knowledge and skills she’s accumulated along the path. Her first career was an English teacher during which time, she completed a master’s degree in English. Ten years later, she went back to school and became a chiropractor and established a rewarding practice which her son, also a chiropractor, now runs. Another decade passed and another career beckoned. She became a Qualified Medical Examiner and has been enjoying the challenges of that career for—of course, ten years.

Since writing has always been her passion, she returned to school and took numerous creative writing courses including Squaw Valley Community of Writers summer program. Now, she’s enjoying the pinnacle of all her careers as the author of SEX HAPPENS. Dr. Carol Soloway lives with her wonderful husband who is nothing like any of the characters in the novel. Together, they have five grown sons with families of their own, all of whom have promised not to read the sex scenes in SEX HAPPENS, a novel which explores the very essence of all that we value as women: marriage, sex, motherhood, friendship and what we’ll do for each

Night Shyamalan, and James L. Brooks. She was named to “Who’s Who in the World’ for 2002 and 2003.
