Hiking Potato Chip Rock Via Mt. Woodson
To come by the lake and get a long hike, start from the Poway Wilderness Picnic Area trail.
Address: 14644 Lake Poway Road, Poway, CA 92064

For a faster, shadier route take the back route from SR-67.

Potato Chip Rock via Mt. Woodson Trail is a 7.6 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Poway, California.

This hike features lake views, mountain views and a great workout!

The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash and honestly, I do not recommend it the last 2 miles to the top unless your dog is in AMAZING shape, it is steep and tough!

Located in northern San Diego county, the Mount Woodson trailhead starts at the end of Lake Poway Road at Lake Poway and offers hikers, climbers and trail runners a challenging trail up to the famous potato chip boulder and Mount Woodson Summit. It is literally UP UP AND UP!

All trails gives you a ton of info and directions to get there.

The hike to the Mt. Woodson Summit is an extremely challenging 2,000 foot climb in elevation.

This 8 mile round trip hike may take 3 to 4 hours on average and is only recommended for experienced hikers looking for a strenuous workout.

It took Israel and I about 3 hours to hike up to the top and back! Bring lots of water and a few snacks!!
