Live Show March 26th

Sponsored by Flax4life and Coffee Ambassador:

We welcome back our family law attorney Christopher Sunnen from Sunnen Law:

Chris covers some amazing topics for our viewers on Divorce 101. We dive into:

“Divorce 101 for 2021”

* How cases are filed now (electronically); and filing delays due to COVID-19 and what you can expect!

* How long does it take to “be divorced”; martial status, i.e., being divorced can happen at the six month mark of a case through agreement or motion; but with filing and processing delays, it may be more like eight months. The Court retains jurisdiction over the rest of the issues which may take much longer.

* Do I still go to court? No, not yet, All hearings remain virtual.

* What can I do to help my case in court? Right now the number one thing is to be present at hearings, have good internet, and be dressed appropriately, and that means pants people!

* What do I do about my finances during this time and stimulus payments? The ATROs (automatic temporary restraining orders) go into effect at the filing of a case, and prevent either party from financially damaging the other. These issues can be complex and you likely will want to consult an attorney. Also, both parties are supposed to divide the stimulus money – if not, it will be an issue for the court.
