Musical Paul Gauguin

15 Nov 2011

written by Cindy Matalucci

Cindy from the Pulse covers the kick off of the musical Paul Gauguin with an exhibition by local “Artivist” Mario Torero. Asian Story Theater begins their 3 week run of their original workshop production of The Musical Paul Gauguin, a musical recounting the life, travels, and art of post impressionist painter Paul Gauguin. The spectacular world music score was developed in collaboration with professional recording artists from Peruvian, Polynesian, Breton, and Caribbean musical traditions.

Cindy interviews Kent Brisby, the executive producer of the musical who also wrote the book and lyrics. Kent takes us behind the scenes and shows us the unique instruments used during the musical.

We also get to speak with the amazing “Artivist” Mario Torero and see some of his gallery exhibition entitled “Goganismo/Indigenos.” The exhibit features paintings from local artists inspired by Gauguin’s creative spirit. This is truly a magnificent collaboration you do not want to miss. For more information on this musical and art exhibition go to www.asianstorytheater.org
