We had the amazing opportunity to stay at The Carmel Valley Ranch Resort in Carmel. It is truly one of California’s best kept secrets. Tucked away in the forests of the Santa Lucia Mountains, Carmel Valley Ranch is situated on 500 acres of lush land and adjacent to the 4400 acre Garland Ranch Regional Park.
We were celebrating Israel’s birthday and wanted to go somewhere peaceful to escape the everyday stress of our busy lives. We also wanted to stay somewhere dog friendly as we hate to leave behind our two furry babies, Isabela & Romeo.
As soon as you step foot in the resort you are relaxed! The staff is amazing and can plan any activity you would like to do while you are staying here. Since they are dog friendly, they provide you with cozy beds, treats, water bowls, and activities for you to do with your pet while you are here.
When we got to our amazing Forest Suite, in the Garland suite room, we were blown away! It was both private and spacious and had 1,100 square feet of space. Gorgeous cathedral ceilings in the living room and travertine tile in the bathroom is an added touch. This suite also includes a wrap around deck with amazing views, a living room with a huge flatscreen TV, a desk to work in, a huge bathroom with a tub and jacuzzi, a large king bed and fireplaces in both the living room and the bedroom. We had enough space to bring 2 huge dog crates and have them set up in the bedroom!
The amenities they provide you are fabulous and luxurious! They give you soft robes and slippers, have a cheese plate and a bottle of wine waiting for you with a kind note thanking you for your stay here. They also have the best shower products and soaps made from the 7500 lavender plants on the property.
We always love to work out when we are on vacation so we loved all the activities they offer at the Ranch. We enjoyed several days of hiking the trails around the resort with the dogs. We did the Huff N Puff trail which takes about an hour to complete. You start out up hill for a great cardio workout, and pass the gorgeous yoga platform on the hilltop. It ends with a scenic view of the Santa Lucia Mountains. This was a great workout and we worked up a sweat! The dogs loved it.
One of my favorite things about the Ranch is that they offer complimentary fitness classes every day like Pilates mat, spin, or hilltop hatha yoga with a breathtaking view of the mountains. We took a fabulous Hatha Restorative Yoga class with Karen who was an amazing instructor. We also loved the spin class in the cottage with Lori. She turns down the lights, has candles lit, and at the end you pick affirmation cards! Mine was Self-Acceptance of course! Perfect right?
You can golf at the 18 hole, Pete Dye designed championship golf course. Since we are not into golf we just relished at the view on the golf course and all the amazing deer that we saw each morning and evening, right on the course! We actually spotted wild turkeys too!
If you know anything about Izzy & I you know we love spending time at the spa. Carmel Valley Ranch’s Spa Aiyana does not disappoint! It is phenomenal! 10,500 square feet of treatment suites with fireplaces, deluxe spa treatment rooms, and pure bliss! Izzy and I checked in the 2nd day of our stay and booked a couples massage in a private suite. It was amazing! You get to enjoy a glass of wine and chocolate after your treatment in front of the Spa’s lobby fireplace.
The food at the resort is amazing! Executive Chef Tim Wood creates seasonal menus that showcase the flavors of each ingredient and the area’s bountiful produce. They serve an amazing fresh Lavender cocktail and a delicious Angus fillet of Beef! On Izzy’s birthday we were treated to a scrumptious dinner by Chef Tim at the Lodge Restaurant! Israel had the Black Angus Fillet and I had the fresh line caught fish with fresh vegetables on the side. Each day we ordered the Organic beet salad which is out of this world! It has winter citrus, garden greens, shaved fennel, feta cheese, and Olive Oil dressing. Yummy! Israel’s favorite part of the Lodge Restaurant is the fact that each night from 6-10 they serve s’mores by the fire outside the Lodge. He made a trip down there each night! Oh and did I mention that the staff picks you up in a golf cart to take you where ever you want to go at the resort? How fabulous is that?
We truly had an amazing time here and think this is one of the best resorts we have been to. We highly recommend it and can’t wait to go back!
