I have to admit I have been a huge Scott Weiland fan for ages. I have followed him since his rise with STP and have seen all the bands he has played with over the years including Velvet Revolver. He is the quintessential rock god, with a gifted voice, that is always bad ass and brings it every time he steps on stage. When I heard about his new band The Wildabouts, I was curious to see what they were all about. After years of some personal issues and negative press, I was rooting for Scott to get back on top and be the rock god I knew in my heart he has always been. I was able to coordinate some coverage of their show in San Diego at Sycuan Casino before the holidays and I was blown away by their performance and their edgy rock sound. This band was energized and had an amazing chemistry you could feel the instant the instruments starting humming. I pushed for an interview but to my dismay it didn’t happen. When I found out they were going to be in Park City and playing one of our favorites spots, ASCAP Music Cafe for the Sundance Film festival, you know I was going to do what I had to do to pin this band down for an interview. As the stars aligned, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to film the show which was phenomenal, and get some quality time with the band.
I spoke to Scott and the band, which consists of bassist Tommy Black, guitarist Jeremy Brown, and drummer Danny Thompson. (I had a list of questions that Barbara Walters would have been stoked on, but I think I will save some of those for my next one on one with Scott!) I talk to the guys about their new album “Blaster” coming out March 31st and their new single ” White Lightning,” which is generating a ton of good buzz and great reviews from Billboard Magazine and several other news outlets. I find out the inspiration for the songs on the album and whether or not “White Lightning” was influenced by the art of making moonshine.
Check out this awesome interview and you must take some time to go see this band! They are awesome and you won’t be disappointed. I love “Way she Moves,” and think that one is going to rise to the top of the charts! Cheers to Scott & The Wildabouts and thanks for bringing the raw rock back to us! #MusicCafe
