The Pulse spoke to Tonya about all the exciting films and events happening for this years 6 Day Film festival. We also spoke about her vision for SDFF and where it is going since she took over in 2012.

We cannot believe it has grown over 500%!

About Tonya:

A ten time Regional Emmy award winner with over 60 International Telly and ADDY awards, Tonya is perhaps the most highly regarded film producer based in San Diego. She began her career as an Executive Producer when she became the Director of Acquisitions for CRM Films.

Tonya co-founded and was President of The Dakota Group, a highly regarded film and post production company in Southern California. Tonya has produced National TV Campaigns and award winning documentaries for Fortune 500 companies.

In 2007, Tonya launched Mantooth Studios and expanded her production scope to include Computer Generated (CGI) projects and Entertainment Projects. Under Mantooth Films, Tonya Executive Produced 4 feature films, including GRAVE SECRETS which became the pilot to the Nickelodeon Series, Dead Time Stories.

In 2012, Tonya and several colleagues took over the San Diego International Film Festival with a two-fold vision: To bring international cinema to San Diego and grow the San Diego International Film Festival as a significant contributor to San Diego’s economy. Today the San Diego International Film Festival has grown over 500%. The spectacular six-day Festival features 120+ film screenings, parties and a red carpet Celebrity Tribute honoring actors such as Annette Bening, Adrian Brody, Geena Davis, Sir Patrick Stewart and countless others. She is steadfast in her belief that, in our increasingly complex and divisive world, cinematic storytelling gives us the opportunity to find common ground through our shared human experiences.

Tonya is a current Board member and past Board chair for SDX (San Diego Ad Club), a member of Patrons of the Prado and recently won the prestigious Advertising Community’s top SDX Brandiego Award, voted North County Empowered Women to Watch and received the Philanthrophy Award from The Ten Best. Tonya graduated from San Diego State University with degrees in Business and Music.

About SDFF:

The San Diego International Film Festival is the region’s premier film event and one of the leading stops on the independent film circuit, with 200+ filmmakers gathering in San Diego to show their films every year.

Portrait of a Lady On Fire

SDIFF celebrates film’s power to create empathy via new perspectives that emerge from powerful and compelling storytelling. The festival showcases great stories, fresh voices and diverse points of view from around the world.

Our line up includes world-premiers, never before seen studio releases, the best in independent filmmaking and a full schedule of parties and events with the filmmakers themselves. Great film sparks great dialogue, which is why we’re dedicated to giving our audiences the unique opportunity to meet and ask questions of filmmakers after screenings, and informally meet-ups at a variety of parties and events.

The festival culminates with the annual Night of the Stars Tribute – a glamorous event recognizing actors and filmmakers who have made a mark on the film industry, and the world, with their professional contributions.

This year Laurence Fishburne is being awarded the Gregory Peck Award at this event and we cannot wait!

Talmadge Art Show presents the Carmel Valley Artists and the TAS/CVA is now part of the Talmadge Company family of shows.

Carmel Valley Artists began over 50 years ago in an artist’s Del Mar home and continued on the move to various venues, settling in the Carmel Valley area of San Diego. This is a similar history to the Talmadge Art Show that began 26 years ago in the Talmadge home of Sharon Gorevitz and Alan Greenberg and now resides at the Liberty Station Conference Center.

We loved seeing all the amazing art Sharon brought into the studio to display and learning about her passion for helping the artist community!

The Talmadge Company recently made the decision to include the CVA in its family of shows because of its long standing in the community and the benefit in reaching the North County area of San Diego.

ADMISSION IS FREE along with FREE PARKING AT THE MARRIOTT all day. With a purchase of $150 or more, (before tax) customers receive $10 off.

The Talmadge Art Show is now celebrating its 26th year in 2019.

About Sharon:

Sharon has always loved to create and produce—from baking cakes, to producing plays to photography to filling a need in the San Diego community 25 years ago by creating the Talmadge Art Show.

“The art show started because a number of craftspeople were telling me that they did not have a place to sell their art, so I opened our home in Talmadge.

Over the past 25 years, as we’ve grown to over 70 artists and 3 art classes, we have moved to several locations with the show now at the Liberty Station Conference Center.

We are proud to continue to showcase established, new and emerging artists from the community and beyond. And as we continue to move forward, we will include more art classes and create additional venues to reach a wider audience.

Stay tuned for her next show happening in November!!!
