Melvin Franklin.

Melvin Franklin is a 20-year Petty Officer First Class U.S. Navy Veteran retiree who co-founded the veteran-owned apparel company O.T.H.E.R in the spring of 2009 with a fellow U.S. Navy service member.

Hoping to bring recognition to the activity-based lifestyles and versatile interests of active, reserve, and veterans inside and outside the uniform, Melvin formed the brand based on the military heritage and camaraderie of the Armed Forces.

For more information Melvin and to purchase some of his amazing clothes and products you can go to: https://otherww.com we just love this local company.

You receive free shipping on an order over $75.00 or more.

Contact them through email if you wish to have them send off a customized care package through OPERATION GIVE FREE!!

OPERATION GIVE FREE is Melvin’s company’s personal mission and duty to support their fellow troops through their in-house customized care package program. Where every purchase is dedicated to creating customized care packages to be sent to a deployed service member. As veterans, they know how much our armed forces service members sacrifice much of their freedoms in their heartfull protection of our Homefront. Often our service members go months without the proper morale and care they deserve and it goes unnoticed far too often

Melvin decided to do something about it. Their process is simple, and their methods will deliver, literally.

They select members from all branches of the UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES by creating a referral program for their customers and asking if they know a deployed member serving or a member nearing deployment and go from there.

So, with your purchase, you’re not just getting an ultra-cool military themed shirt, hat, or accessory but you are helping and JOINING THEIR MISSION!

Red Dress Party!

Now we sit down with another local company making a huge difference in the community. Red Dress Party San Diego was founded and is presented by Think Red Project, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Marvin Hanashiro & Leslie Rathbone

It’s mission is two-fold: to plan, promote and produce events that raise funds and awareness for the local HIV/AIDS community, as well as to activate a new generation of philanthropists, those who want to do something both feel-good and fun-loving.

They are a group of concerned and engaged volunteers that are serious about fundraising and serious about fun.

We talk with Marvin Hanashiro and Leslie Rathbone from the organization to give us the scoop on this years event!

About this years event:

Red Dress Party San Diego – which started 10 years ago this year – is a celebration that raises awareness and funds for organizations that serve the local HIV/AIDS community; but not your typical fundraising gala, this event is so much more.

What Makes Red Dress Party San Diego Different?

Red Dress Party San Diego is a night of music and dancing mixed with charity and fun, where all attendees – and we mean everyone – is required to wear a red dress, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

This serves both as a powerful sign of solidarity and compassion for those affected by HIV/AIDS and a way to unite the crowd in one radiant theme. At this unique celebration we invite everyone to be brave, let loose, and celebrate impact.

Returning to The Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier!

RDPSD 2024 returns to the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier. Guests will enter directly into the Pavilion, a 15,000 square foot, open-air mega-space that’s all on one level, with room for over 1,000 attendees.

This Pavilion features 40-foot tall ceilings and massive windows that give views to the San Diego Bay. On the back end of the Pavilion are oversized roll-up doors that open to the View Court – a large outdoor space right on the water. Guests can expect all their favorites – such as live entertainment, a DJ, photo booths, on-site HIV testing and education – plus a new twist or two for a bright night of celebration.

THEME: “Casino Royale”.

Be ready to get whisked away to a dazzling all-red casino, complete with port-side gaming tables and fabulous prizes. As for attire, you know the drill: red dresses or dress-like garments, and whether you’re a king of diamonds, a flashy showgirl, or a casino high roller we can’t wait to get lucky with you and bet on ending HIV. Also, for those who have been wanting a “red carpet” or “old Hollywood” theme, this is your year to serve high fashion and glamour.

HEALTH AND SAFETY INFO. For the overall wellness and wellbeing of our attendees and the community at large, we will abide by all City, State, and federal guidelines for an event of our size and may elect to add additional safety precautions as we get closer to the event date.
